We try to evaluate the result of the operative treatment of Achilles tendon rupture using plantaris tendon augmentation(Lynn¡®s method) and the functional outcomes related to the cause of injury and rehabilitation methods. We studied retrospectively, 28 patients of Achilles tendon rupture treated and followed over 1-year. The repair method of ruptured tendon was pirmary repair with plantaris tendon augmentation(Lynn¡®s method). We used Leppilahti method for the clinical evaluation and analyzed patient¡¯s satisfaction and subjective strength deficit. In clinical results, we had 11 excellent cases(39%), 10 good cases(36%), 4 fair cases(14%) and 3 poor cases(11%). Non-sports related rupture had worse result than sports related rupture due to old age and degenerative changes of tendon. The result of short leg cast was similar to that of long leg cast in rehabilitation method, especially, the group starting the weight bearing ambulation within 8 weeks obtained excellent results. We had good result for Achilles tendon rupture treated by primary repair with plantris tendon augmentation. This study shows plantaris tendon augmentation(Lynn¡¯s method) was recommended method for primary repair and early rehabilitation of Achilles tendon rupture.
